Abhyanga Massage is for ladies only.

Abhyanga is the term for Ayurveda warm oil massage. The body is lovingly anointed with warm, herbalised oil, and massage strokes are combined with a variety of marma point treatments, helping to balance the flow of energy and vitality in the body.
The massage is completed with a hot towel rub which both increases the therapeutic benefits of the oil and herbs and also feels wonderful, or it can be combined with another treatment, such as shirodhara for even deeper effect.

Abhyanga is a combination of light muscular massage, lymphatic drainage and toning, harmonising the flow of prana is the body through marma points, and also sacred intention and touch. As well as a massage it is a deeply honouring ritual to the body and spirit.  Abhyanga can be interpreted as "loving hands" in Sanskrit, a fitting description for a massage practice rooted in purity and compassion.

Ayurvedic oil massage is profoundly soothing and nurturing. Modern studies have shown that oil massaging encourages the body to produce oxytocin, the hormone associated with love and feeling good. Oxytocin has many beneficial effects on your immune system. It also provides a radiant “glow” and uplifts the mood.

Abhyanga also includes the unique side-lying position. This position offers myriad benefits; it promotes better spinal alignment, easing tension and discomfort in the back, neck, and shoulders. Additionally, it facilitates lymph drainage, aiding in the removal of toxins and promoting overall well-being. Many find comfort in lying on their side during a massage, for some, it may even evoke a sense of prenatal nurturing. Ultimately, the side-lying position fosters a profound sense of security and relaxation, allowing recipients to fully surrender to the massage experience and release tension with ease.

Ayurvedic Massage also benefits us by:

1. Nourishment and Hydration: By applying warm herbal oils to the body, Abhyanga deeply moisturizes the skin, promoting hydration and nourishment. This helps to maintain skin health and vitality.

2. Detoxification: The rhythmic massage strokes of Abhyanga aid in the movement of lymphatic fluid, facilitating the removal of toxins and waste products from the body. This detoxifying effect supports overall wellness and promotes a sense of lightness and clarity.

3. Relaxation and Stress Reduction: Abhyanga induces a profound sense of relaxation, soothing the nervous system and calming the mind. The gentle, repetitive movements of the massage help to release tension and promote a state of deep relaxation, reducing stress and anxiety.

4. Balancing and Rejuvenation: Through the manipulation of energy channels and Marma points, Abhyanga helps to balance the flow of Prana (life force energy) throughout the body. This promotes harmony and equilibrium on physical, mental, and emotional levels, supporting overall rejuvenation and well-being.

Whether offered as a standalone treatment, integrated into a comprehensive wellness package, or taught as a self-care technique, Abhyanga holds immense potential for transformation. Abhyanga is a sacred ritual that ideally should be practiced as a daily treatment on oneself and received from a practitioner when one is able to.

Abhyanga should be resorted to daily. It wards off old age, exertion and aggravation of Vata.”–Ashtanga Hrdayam: Sutrasthana: II: 8-9

The body of one who uses oil massage regularly does not become affected much even if subjected to accidental injuries or strenuous work. By using oil massage daily, a person is endowed with pleasant touch, trimmed body parts, and becomes strong, charming, and least affected by old age.”–Charaka Samhita Vol. 1,V: 88-8
